An Open Letter to Sec Mark Villar Re: 2,709 Bridges

Honorable Mark Villar
Secretary
Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH)

Dear Mr Secretary,

This is regarding the recent report of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) on the event of the Duterte Legacy Photo Exhibit.

In that infographics, it was mentioned that there were 2,709 bridges project. May I know how many of these are actual bridge construction and how many are merely repairs/rehabilitations?

I've reviewed the DPWH Twitter and Facebook page and I've only counted 146 bridges constructed/repaired. This is very far from the 2,709 bridges project that the PCOO is boasting. Attached is the Excel file I compiled of these projects your office reported on social media.
I believe that the PCOO report is misleading since it didn't provide details on many of these bridges were constructed and how many were mere repairs/rehabilitations.

I'm also requesting a detailed breakdown of these bridges that PCOO mentioned through your office. I also submitted the request via the FOI Portal as well.
If I may suggest, please create a separate Twitter or FB account that will only posts completed bridges/airport projects. It will make it easier for concern citizens like me to track down DPWH projects. Your current Twitter and FB page is cluttered with the following announcements that makes it hard for us to de-clutter:
  • · Lakbay Alalay (Undas)
  • · Road Closure/Clearing Operation
  • · Big One Preparedness Program
  • · Typhoon Updates
  • · Coastal Clean-up
  • · Seminars
  • · Installation of water collectors
Likewise, I'm requesting a breakdown of the 243 seaports that was also mentioned in the infographics. How many of these seaports were constructed from scratch? How many are mere repair/rehabilitation.

Hoping for your immediate action regarding this request,

Elmer Domingo
