Mariano Ponce Museum, Baliwag, Bulacan (in Pictures)

Mariano Ponce is the greatest son of Baliwag, Bulacan. He’s besties with Dr Jose Rizal and Marcelo H del Pilar and they have a famous “triumvirate” picture. His birthplace is just a few blocks away from the St Augustine Parish Church, along the street that bears his name. Our high school is named after him but I only recently visited his museum. I don’t know if this is renovated by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines but it’s a great way to spend time in Baliwag.

The marker on his ancestral house reads:

1863-1918

Repormista at makabayan. Baliwag, Bulacan in Pictures

Baliuag (also Baliwag) is a landlocked municipality in the coastal province of Bulacan.

The municipality has a land area of 45.05 square kilometers or 17.39 square miles which constitutes 1.62% of Bulacan's total area. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 168,470. This represented 4.54% of the total population of Bulacan province, or 1.36% of the overall population of the Central Luzon region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 3,740 inhabitants per square kilometer or 9,688 inhabitants per square mile. Baliuag has 27 barangays. (PhilAtlas)

Baliwag is my boyhood town. I lived there from 1989 to 2000 and graduated in San Jose Elementary School and Mariano Ponce High School. Even when I studied in Bulacan State University (BSU), I still go home in Baliwag. After college, I left Baliwag and lived in Pasig City ever since.

Baliwag will always be a place worth visiting and this is the first time that I took a lot of pictures of this amazing place. It’s on its way to becoming Baliwag City and a lot has changed specially in San Jose Tumana where I used to live.
