Bulakan is a coastal municipality in the province of Bulacan.

The municipality has a land area of 72.90 square kilometers or 28.15 square miles which constitutes 2.62% of Bulacan's total area. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 81,232. This represented 2.19% of the total population of Bulacan province, or 0.65% of the overall population of the Central Luzon region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 1,114 inhabitants per square kilometer or 2,886 inhabitants per square mile. Bulakan has 14 barangays. (PhilAtlas)

I studied at Bulacan State University during college. It’s located at Malolos City, Bulacan. Just next to it is the town of Bulakan (spelled with a “k”). Shameful to admit that I’ve only visited this next town recently – after 20 years since graduating college. And it’s a very quick visit. I wasn’t even there for an hour.

I was on my way to Baliwag, my boyhood town, when I simply decided “today is a nice day to visit Bulakan”. So instead of going to Baliwag, I took a side trip to Bulakan, Bulacan. I was invited to a mini-reunion by my classmates from Mariano Ponce High School (MPHS) in Baliwag for the awarding of Biggest Loser Challenge, Mayon edition.

So I did. I just visited the church of Our Lady of Assumption at the town center. It was closed during my visit unfortunately. Just opposite the church is the municipal hall (typical town plaza design during the Spanish period). There’s an old house nearby and a bust of Marcelo H del Pilar at the center of the road.

When I visit a new town, I usually visit the Rizal Monument at the town’s plaza and palengke (market). Due to time constrain, I decided to go to my original destination via Malolos, then Plaridel, Pulilan and then SM Baliwag to visit the Valenzuela Pavilion.

Ang simbahan ng Bulacan

Itinatag ng mga paring Agustino bilang visita ng Obando, 1575. Ipinatayo ang simbahang parokyal at kumbento sa patronato ng Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion, 1578. The intricate carvings on the main door of the church reminds me of the carvings on the main door of a church in Intramuros.

I believe this is the monument of Gregorio H. del Pilar. It’s very similar to his statue in front of the Bulacan Provincial Capitol in Malolos City.

Talisay City, Cebu Province (in Pictures)

Talisay is a coastal component city in the island province of Cebu.

The city has a land area of 39.87 square kilometers or 15.39 square miles which constitutes 0.81% of Cebu's total area. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 263,048. This represented 7.91% of the total population of Cebu province, or 3.25% of the overall population of the Central Visayas region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 6,598 inhabitants per square kilometer or 17,092 inhabitants per square mile. Talisay has 22 barangays. (PhilAtlas)

From Naga, Cebu Province I rode a bus going to Cebu City but I dropped off at Tabunok, Talisay City. From there, I rode a tricycle going to the Poblacion area where the church and munisipyo (municipal hall) is located.

The Talisay City Church is also known as Sta Teresa de Avila Church. Similar to other churches in Cebu Province, the Sta Teresa de Avila Church is all painted in white. It also has two belfries so it’s really symmetrical. Right across the street from the church you’ll find the Talisay City Hall where a monument both to Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio can be found.

From Talisay City, I rode a mini-bus back to Cebu City.

San Fernando is a coastal municipality in the island province of Cebu.

The municipality has a land area of 69.39 square kilometers or 26.79 square miles which constitutes 1.40% of Cebu's total area. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 72,224. This represented 2.17% of the total population of Cebu province, or 0.89% of the overall population of the Central Visayas region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 1,041 inhabitants per square kilometer or 2,696 inhabitants per square mile. San Fernando has 21 barangays. (PhilAtlas)

This is the 3^rd San Fernando that I know – after San Fernando, Pampanga and San Fernando, La Union. San Fernando in Cebu Province is a quiet, small town. It’s one of those towns that is traverse by the national highway that you usually just passed going to a major city.

I guess the most interesting building in this part of Cebu Province is the San Fernando Catholic Church also known as San Isidro Labrador Parish church. It has two belfries.

From Carcar City, I passed by San Fernando, Naga and Talisay City on my way back to Cebu City. Pictures taken using my Xiaomi Redmi Note 9.

Barili, Cebu Province (in Pictures)

Barili is a coastal municipality in the island province of Cebu.

The municipality has a land area of 122.21 square kilometers or 47.19 square miles which constitutes 2.47% of Cebu's total area. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 80,715. This represented 2.43% of the total population of Cebu province, or 1.00% of the overall population of the Central Visayas region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 660 inhabitants per square kilometer or 1,710 inhabitants per square mile. Barili has 42 barangays as shown in the following table. From Carcar City, I took a jeep (cab) to the quiet town of Barili, Cebu on the West Coast of the island. It was probably an hour trip. It’s another quiet town with a nice yellow-painted church. Good thing about this town is that it has some ancestral houses that I love to take pictures of.

There’s also a tourism office near the municipal hall and that I’ve learned that there are some waterfalls in town. Too bad I’m not into chasing waterfalls and the trip probably is expensive since I’m traveling alone. For now, I just roam around a town’s Poblacion area whenever I’m traveling.
