Poblacion, Carmen, Cebu Province (in Pictures)

Carmen is a coastal municipality in the island province of Cebu.

The municipality has a land area of 84.78 square kilometers or 32.73 square miles which constitutes 1.71% of Cebu's total area. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 57,897. This represented 1.74% of the total population of Cebu province, or 0.72% of the overall population of the Central Visayas region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 683 inhabitants per square kilometer or 1,769 inhabitants per square mile. Carmen has 21 barangays. (PhilAtlas)

The town of Carmen is another small town that has a modern Catholic church at the Poblacion area and a neo-classical municipal hall. There’s a Rizal Monument in front of the municipal hall but I can’t find the public market. Like Catmon, the town of Carmen is one of those towns located along the main highway (or traverse by the National Road).

Daanbantayan, Cebu Province (in Pictures)

Daanbantayan is a coastal municipality in the island province of Cebu.

The municipality has a land area of 92.27 square kilometers or 35.63 square miles which constitutes 1.87% of Cebu's total area. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 93,502. This represented 2.81% of the total population of Cebu province, or 1.16% of the overall population of the Central Visayas region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 1,013 inhabitants per square kilometer or 2,624 inhabitants per square mile. Daanbantayan has 20 barangays. (PhilAtlas)

Daanbantayan is the northernmost part of Cebu Province that you could visit without riding a boat. I left the North Cebu Bus Terminal around 3:00 AM (first trip) and I was at Daanbantayan around 6:00 AM. This town is famous as the gateway to Malapascua Island but during my Cebu trip, I’m not into expensive island-hopping adventure.

Daanbantayan is a quiet, seaside town with an old church. Rizal monument is nearby as well as the municipal hall and the public plaza. It’s a beach town but the parts I’ve seen (public beaches) were not enticing.

Here are some of the pictures I took of Daanbantayan.

Good Friday Procession in Baliuag (Part 1 of 3)

I’m not a devote Catholic but what I love about the Holy Week is visiting 7 churches aka Visita Iglesia and endless procession depicting the events of the Crucifixion. One of the most detailed and the longest procession I’ve attended was the Good Friday Procession in Baliuag, Bulacan.

More than 100 karo (carroza) take part in this annual procession which happens every Holy Wednesday and Good Friday. I’ve seen it a couple of times since I lived in Baliuag during my boyhood years but it’s only last year that I was able to take pictures of the karo. Most of these karo have lifesize statues and almost all events in the life of Christ is depicted.

This is definitely THE procession that all Filipino Catholics should see at least once in their life.
