We initially wanted to go straight to Vigan City from Manila but since we didn’t make it to the last trip from Partas Bus Station in Cubao (11:00 PM), we decided to go to Baguio first, then San Juan, La Union and finally to Vigan.
We left Manila around 1:00 AM and by 5:00 AM we were at Baguio. They’re no longer requiring the contract tracing form via their app, which is a good thing. We later learned that the earliest trip to La Union (via Agoo) is at around 8:00 AM. So we did stroll around Session Road and visited the most iconic structure in the City of Pines – the Baguio Cathedral also known as Our Lady of the Atonement Cathedral.
We went there through the stairs from Session Road. I don’t know when they installed the beautiful statues along this route but it’s wonderful. There’s even a statue of St Mother Teresa of Calcutta there. This church by the way was constructed in the 1920s atop the hill called Kampo (now Mount Mary Hill) by the Ibaloi people. It’s Gothic in style with its twin towers or spires and its rose window on the façade.
Oh by the way, back in 2005 I lived in Baguio City for 6 months due to a construction project there. I love Baguio City during the summer season – but during the rainy season, it can go very cold and gloomy. Visiting Baguio City and this cathedral is always a good feeling though.
