My last stop for my 3rd day in Cebu Province was the San Fernando Rey Parish Church, in Liloan, Cebu Province. It’s located along the Central Nautical Highway on the way to Cebu City.
According to Sugbo.ph:
- Feast Day: May 29 and 30
- Fun Facts:
There are two features that makes the San Fernando Rey Parish Church unique compared to other churches in Cebu built during the Spanish era.
– The church was built facing the mountain to the West unlike the usual churches where it faces the sea to the East
– The church was built much bigger than other churches even with the little population size during that time
The San Fernando Rey Parish is one of the oldest structures in the town of Liloan. It was built in 1847 and was named after the saint who recaptured Spain from the Moors, Saint Ferdinand III. Read more on their Facebook page.
The Rizal Monument is across the street from the San Fernando Rey Parish Church, in front of the municipal hall.
